Hello friends and family! Dr. Brian Huggins here of the Oakville Chiropractic Centre. As I sit here at the computer and reflect how quickly August is flying by, I realize how fast the entire summer has flown by which is totally contrary to March, April and May. It felt like March had 62 days and April the same.

It’s time to reflect on your isolation and quarantine period. In mid, March when everything shut down, I was of the mindset that this was quite temporary and we would be back to our normal routines fairly quickly…clearly I was wrong.

In our house, the kitchen became a way to pass those days that seemed to drag on and on. I baked, roasted, fried, sautéed, brazed and grilled all sorts of different foods. I cooked bulgogi, cauliflower bites, chicken wings, brisket, seafood, steaks, KAB’s (what I like to call my kick ass burgers) and lots more just to name a few. With activity down and food consumption up, let’s all take a wild guess what happened?!  You nailed it…the weight gain of the dreaded Covid 19+. For college and university students, we used to call it the Freshman 15, but who knew that 2020 would bring us a new reason for weight gain!

One thing that I noticed with this type of weight gain is it wasn’t apparent straight away until 3 months later, my clothes were fitting a little snugger, some even had to be taken out of the rotation! A couple of years ago, I had a myocardial infarct (heart attack) and was placed on high blood pressure medication and other such things to ensure that my stent did not close up. The odd thing was that with a daily half hour walks on the treadmill and keeping a reasonable eye on my diet, I increased mass with this as well. I suspect that had something to do with side effects or ADR’s of medication.

To carry on with the increase in mass with medication and then adding the Covid 19, I realized that I have become quite portly in the abdominal region to be blunt. What to do?
I suspect when it creeps up on you and punches you in the face (as it has for me), you feel like it’s time to act.

It’s time to work on increasing my fitness and health along with dropping some lbs along the way. I’ve decided to move forward with a program to achieve some health and wellness goals. I am not suggesting hours at the gym everyday nor any drastic measures. I think a sensible approach is to start with a LIVER REBOOT AND CLEANSE.

That needs to be followed up with increasing mobility, cardio endurance and strength improvement. I am at an age where “which way to the beach” muscles are not realistic nor desired. My goal is to improve health and wellness and ultimately adding years to life and life to years.

If this resonates with you and you would like to participate in the upcoming programme, click here and fill out a form on our website and mention in the comments you are interested in the LIVER REBOOT AND CLEANSE.  I will personally send you the liver cleanse and then ongoing plans to achieve your goal whether it be 5 or 50 lbs.

Let’s hold each other accountable! Enjoy the rest of the summer, hope to hear from you.
