Here at the Oakville Chiropractic Centre, our doctors often get questioned about “MRT”? What is MRT? How does MRT work? Am I the right candidate for MRT? All great questions. Dr. Nishma Appanna has answered your questions below!
What is MRT?
Let’s start with the basics. MRT stands for Myofascial Release Therapy. It is a type of treatment that focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness. Most patients seek myofascial release therapy after losing flexibility or function following an injury or if they are experiencing ongoing pain in the muscles.
How does MRT work?
MRT works by releasing trigger points in your muscles. The goal of this therapy is to stretch and loosen the fascia in a certain area of the body in return, relieving tension. It’s similar to a massage. Once a trigger point is found, your Oakville Chiropractor will hold it down and guide you in the motion of that muscle. This can take several passes in order to feel some type of relief depending on how tense the muscle can be. More often than not our practitioners will also apply heat to the area before or after treatment in order to help further loosen up any built up tension in the area. MRT couples very well with chiropractic adjustments as it prepares your body for the treatment ahead. Our Oakville Chiropractor Dr. Tiffany Huggins is specially trained in MRT and would love to treat you! Please call us to book an appointment at 905-845-2291.
